To be honest: this song was totally inspired by a scene from one of my favourite movies: Lucia Y El Sexo from the director Julio Medem, in English: Sex and Lucia. Translated in English the title is not to inspiring. The Original Spanish title of the movie does that better.
Lucia's writer-boyfriend disappears one day and she thinks he is dead. Her long journey to the past, and the origin of his last and obsessive book, gives her more information and insight of his life than she ever could have imagined.
After arriving on the island her first experiences is the confrontation with being on her own. Being alone after a separation of your dearest you are never that fine. But at the same moment experiencing that the whole world is turning around couples is quite hard. No Paella For One is the answer she gets from the waiter after she has ordered Paella. She emotionally collapses instantly after hearing that answer. In the end she discovers he is not dead and her new knowledge hasn't changed her feelings towards him but finally has enriched them.

I'm sitting in the sun, afternoon in June
Gazing at the wind and sand, to make me forget about my stand

Swinging thoughts, from left to right
Never loose my appetite
Usually together from home, and now I'm here on my own
I'm sorry, no Paella for one
we only serve for two, I'm sorry, only for two

Crying a bitter tear. How could you disappear?
Waiting for a sign to come, still marching the beat of your drum

Swinging thoughts from left to right
Crying in broad daylight
Never left, my house to find, out about all these vows
I'm sorry, no Paella for one
we only serve for two, I'm sorry, only for two
